SHERBROOKE, Que. – The Bishop's Gaiters men's basketball team will open the 2014 portion of the RSEQ University season against the UQAM Citadins in Montreal on Friday night and at home in Mitchell Gym on Saturday night. Tip-off for both games is at 8 p.m.
The Gaiters played in the Rod Shoveller Tournament in Halifax over the holiday break. They finished with a 1-2 record losing 72-64 to the Dalhousie Tigers and 66-60 to the St. Francis Xavier X-men. Their lone victory, a 72-53 win came against one of the AUS' top teams, the St. Mary's Huskies.
Bishop's (3-1) played UQAM (1-5) in early November and came out on top 81-55 in Lennoxville. Bishop's had the first week of 2014 RSEQ action off while UQAM played a home-and-home stint with the Concordia Stingers (3-3). The Citadins lost both games and now sit at the bottom of the RSEQ standings. The Gaiters are second in the standings behind No. 7 McGill (5-1).
"We haven't played to our potential yet this season," said Gaiters bench boss
Rod Gilpin. "This weekend will be an opportunity for us to play our best. I like the home-and home format, its good for our team. There is no love lost between teams in Quebec and whether we play them on back-to-back nights or back-to-back weeks, we know each other well enough."
The Gaiters and Citadins are set for a home-and-home double-header beginning in Montreal on Friday night and followed by a tilt in Mitchell Gym on Saturday. Both games can be viewed online with tip-off set for 8 p.m.
