SHERBROOKE, Que. – Gaiters rugby captain
Nicolas Charlton has been named the Provigo, Robert Lafond Bishop's Gaiters Athlete of the Week. He led the Gaiters to a 29-8 victory over the Sherbrooke Vert et Or last Wednesday night in Sherbrooke.
Charlton, a fourth-year flyhalf was responsible for nine points on Wednesday, Oct. 8. The business major connected on three of the four converts he attempted and added a successful penalty kick. The 5-foot-7 Montreal native was also responsible for setting up a try scored by
Mike Izzard (Oakville, Ont.).
"Nic was great all night long," said Gaiters coach Charles Goode. "He was strong in tactical kicking, game management and defense. He was our man of the match."
After the victory and ensuing weekend results, Bishop's now sits atop the RSEQ Standings at 3-1-1 (17 points). Concordia is in second place at 3-1-1 (16 points) and the McGill Redmen are in third at 2-1-2 (14 points). The Gaiters now enjoy an extended break as they are not back on the pitch until Friday, Oct. 24 when they host the Stingers on Coulter Field.
Honourable MentionsJean Gayrard (Football) – the Thetford Mines native had an interception, three tackles and played a strong game from his defensive back position on Thursday night as the Gaiters (1-4) secured their first win of the season, a 17-14 victory over the McGill Redmen (0-5) in Montreal.
Men's LacrosseThe Bishop's Gaiters men's lacrosse squad did not have long to work off the turkey from Thanksgiving weekend. They were in Montreal on Monday night to face Concordia. Bishop's scored early and often. They cruised to a 27-1 victory and move to 7-2 on the year; that gives them a firm grip on second place in the CUFLA East division.
