Men's Basketball

GAITERS ON HARDWOOD IN PROVINCIAL CAPITAL THURSDAY

SHERBROOKE, Que. – The first-place Bishop's Gaiters men's basketball team will play in the backend of a double header on Thursday night in Quebec City. The women will open the night against the Laval Rouge et Or at 6 p.m. while the men follow at 8 p.m. in PEPS Gymnasium.

Women
The Bishop's Lady Gaiters (0-2) have lost their two contests in Montreal so far this year.  They opened against the season against the No. 4 McGill Martlets (2-0) then tipped off against the Concordia Stingers (1-1) a week later.  In both cases the Gaiters lost by double digits. Bishop's is in search of their first regular season win since February 2012 after a pair of winless seasons.  This year will provide extra motivation to get over the hump and qualify for the playoffs as Bishop's is set to host the RSEQ Final-4 from March 5-7, 2015 in Mitchell Gym.

The Gaiters will look to chalk up a win against a Laval team (1-1) that is coming off a bye week after opening the year with a pair of contests.  They topped Concordia in Montreal before falling to UQAM (1-1) at home in the first weekend of league action.

Men
The Bishop's Gaiters men's squad is 2-0 on the year and the only team that is undefeated in the RSEQ.  After a crazy comeback victory over the McGill Redmen (1-1) to open the campaign the Gaiters backed that up with a 76-69 victory over Concordia (1-1).  Both games were in Montreal.

They too will look towards March where they will have home court advantage in the second annual RSEQ Final-4 set to take place in Lennoxville March 5-7.   As with the women, the Rouge et Or men (1-1) played two games in three nights to open the season then enjoyed a week off.  Thursday will mark their first game since November 8.  A season ago Bishop's and Laval split their season series each winning the two games they hosted.  The Gaiters did manage to beat Concordia at PEPS in the 2014 edition of the RSEQ Final-4 semi-final but then lost to McGill in the final on the same court.

Through two games Laval leads the league averaging 77 points per game. They also boast the league's leading scorer in Thibaud Dezutter (Namur, Belgium) who has scored 19 and 23 points in their two contests.  Bishop's is led by fifth-year transfer Kyle Demarasis (Montreal). He is coming off an 18-point performance against his former team, the Concordia Stingers and was named Provigo, Robert Lafond Bishop's Athlete of the Week. Mike Andrews (Oakville, Ont.), the 2012-13 RSEQ league MVP is chipping into the Gaiters success by using his 6'10 frame to control the paint.  He has averaged 3.5 blocks per game while hauling in 6 rebounds per game.
