SHERBROOKE, Que. – The Bishop's University women's and men's basketball squads open their regular season action against McGill on Saturday night in Montreal. The women tip at 6 p.m. and the men follow at 8 p.m.
The Lady Gaiters played six exhibition matches finishing the pre-season with a 1-5 record. They toured Southern Ontario coming up with a win against the University of Waterloo and took part in the Mickey Place Memorial Tournament hosted by UPEI.
Bishop's finished the 2014 season 0-16. McGill was 13-3, claiming the RSEQ title at the Final 4 hosted by Laval. McGill will host the first of four regular season match ups with the Gaiters in Montreal on Saturday night at 6 p.m.
The men's basketball team faced top CIS teams and tough competition in the Guy Vetrie Memorial Tournament hosted by the University of Victoria and the Jack Donahue Tournament hosted by the University of Ottawa this pre-season. Bishop's also hosted NCAA Division III WPI and visited Plattsburgh State to cap their exhibition schedule at 0-7.
Bishop's fell to the Redmen in the RSEQ final last season. The men look to return to the RSEQ final for a third time this year and will have home court advantage as Bishop's will host the RSEQ Final 4 from Mar. 5-7, 2015.
The Gaiters had a 9-7 and McGill a 14-2 record in 2013-14. McGill hosts the rematch of the RSEQ final on Saturday night at 8 p.m.
McGill will be the first of four away games for the Gaiters as they will not host until the new-year due to construction in Mitchell Gym.
