Box Score 2 Onnex Blackwood led the Bishop's Gaiters (8-6) men's basketball squad in a pair of contests over the weekend, however they dropped both games. Friday it was No. 7 McGill (12-2) topping Bishop's 69-63 in Mitchell Gym and Sunday the UQAM Citadins (3-11) beat Bishop's 73-52 in Montreal.
Despite the two losses, the RSEQ University men's basketball playoff picture is getting clearer. The Gaiters know they will finish either second or third as they have the same record as the Concordia Stingers (8-6). The two foes will be first-round playoff opponents in Quebec City on Mar. 1 at the inaugural RSEQ Final-Four. McGill has clinched first-place however they are unsure of their first round opponent. UQAM currently sits one game behind the Laval Rouge et Or (4-10) with two left to play.
On Friday night Blackwood (Scarborough, Ont.) netted 16 points, while
Mike Andrews (Oakville, Ont.) chipped in with 14 points and blocked four shots. Floor general
Scott Ring scored 12 points and had three assists in a losing cause. The Redmen's Vincent Dufort (Smiths Falls, Ont.) led all scorers with 25 points.
Blackwood was the lone Gaiter in double figures on Sunday. He scored 10 points in 29 minutes of play and had three steals but it was not enough as UQAM cruised to a 21-point victory. The Citadins' Richard Addai (Montreal) scored 32 points and Alex Bernard (Gatineau, Que.) netted 22 in UQAM's 73-52 victory.
The Gaiters close out the RSEQ regular season with a pair of games next weekend. Friday, Feb. 21 the Stingers are in town for an 8 p.m. start in Mitchell Gym. Saturday Bishop's travels to Quebec City for a tilt with the Rouge et Or at 7 p.m.
