Box Score QUEBEC CITY – The McGill Redmen jumped out to an early lead that they never relinquished as they cruised to a 73-47 victory over the Bishop's Gaiters on Sunday afternoon in the RSEQ Final 4 university men's basketball championship game.  The win punched McGill's ticket to the CIS championship for the second consecutive year.
 
After a tense opening few minutes by both squads the Redmen caught fire.  They opened by shooting a blistering 53.6 percent from the floor in the first half including a 6-for-9 performance from behind the arc.  The Gaiters, unable to score any easy baskets, also made some uncharacteristic mistakes.  They missed multiple lay-ups, were just 5-for-10 from the free throw line and turned the ball over 11 times in the opening 20 minutes; all factors that led to a McGill 40-23 advantage at the break.
 
The Gaiters were never able to get anything going in the third or forth quarters.  Anytime the purple and silver looked like they were going to put a dent in McGill's advantage the Redmen answered back. 
 
For Bishop's, Mike Andrews (Oakville, Ont.) led the way.  He scored 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds. As a team the Gaiters shot just 31.7 percent from the floor, including 1-for-11 from three-point land.  On the contrary McGill was 47.2 percent from the floor and a sizzling 7-for-13 from downtown.  League MVP Vincent Dufort (Smiths Falls, Ont.) led all scorers with 18 points for the Redmen.
 
"I don't think we executed our game plan real well in the first half," said Gaiters head coach Rod Gilpin. "We missed a lot of good shots inside that could have allowed us to stay in the game.  We got ourselves into a situation where we had to scramble and they handled the ball too well to let us back into it."
 
At halftime of the contest it was announced that Bishop's will host the 2015 RSEQ Final 4 basketball championships next March.
 
The Gaiters 2013-14 campaign comes to an end after their loss to the McGill Redmen in the RSEQ Championship for the second straight year.
