MIXED RESULTS FOR GAITERS OVER THE WEEKEND

SHERBROOKE, Que. – Midfielder Mason Austin led the Bishop's Gaiters men's lacrosse team in a pair of games this week.  They fell 11-5 at McGill on Wednesday night but rebounded with an impressive 19-9 victory over the University of Ottawa in CUFLA East action on Saturday night. Austin netted seven goals and added an assist in the two contests. The Bishop's Gaiters were busy throughout the weekend as three other sports were also in action.

The Gaiters golf team traveled to Mirabel, Quebec to compete in the second RSEQ tournament of the year, this one hosted by McGill. Martin St-Pierre (Sherbrooke, Que.) once again led the way for the purple shooting rounds of 74 and 77 to finish alone in 13th.  Rookie James Huxham (Beaconsfield, Que.) fired scores of 75-78 for a solo 17th effort. The Gaiters as a team finished in sixth place (out of 12 teams) for the second straight tournament. On the women's side the Gaiters were led by Lindsay Reid (Beaconsfield).  She shot 81-77 to claim a share of sixth place and lead Bishop's to a fourth place (out of 5 teams) finish.
 
The Bishop's women's rugby squad traveled to Quebec City to face a tough Rouge et Or team. The hosts rolled to a 118-0 win.
 
Staying on the pitch the Gaiters women's soccer team played a pair of contests.  Friday night in Montreal they fell 3-0 to the UQAM Citadins. On Sunday the UQTR Patriotes visited Coulter Field. Bishop's continued to struggle offensively and lost 4-0.
 
Looking ahead to homecoming weekend for the purple and silver, Coulter Field will be busy.  On Thursday, September 25, the Gaiters lacrosse team hosts McGill at 8:30 p.m. On Friday there is a triple-header beginning with women's rugby against McGill at 4 p.m.  The women's soccer squad will face Laval at 6 p.m. with men's rugby wrapping it up at 8 p.m. against the Montreal Carabins.  Saturday the Mount Allison Mounties are in town for a 7 p.m. kickoff against the Gaiters football team.
