GAITERS COME UP SHORT IN PAIR AGAINST ROUGE ET OR

SHERBROOKE, Que. – Despite a pair of strong efforts from the Bishop's University women's basketball team, they dropped a pair of contests to the Laval Rouge et Or over the weekend.  Laval triumphed 75-65 in Quebec City on Friday and earned a 48-36 win on Saturday in the New Gym on the Bishop's University Campus.

Bishop's scored a season-high 65 points on Friday night led by Eloisa Katz (Raanana, Isreal) who netted 15 in just 16 minutes of court time. Unfortunately for Bishop's the hosts scored 75 in the provincial capital and pulled out the victory. Sophomore point-guard Edith Noblecilla (Quito, Ecuador) and rookie Noemie Hamel-Petit (Magog, Que.) each chipped in with 13 points.

On Saturday, the Gaiters tightened up defensively, holding Laval to 48 points but unfortunately shot just 23.3 percent from the floor and lost 48-36 in front of their hometown fans. Hamel-Petit led Bishop's scoring effort with nine points and she also grabbed 11 rebounds in 34 minutes. The Gaiters took eight more field-goal attempts than Laval who themselves were only 25 percent from the floor. Laval was able to shoot 19 of 27 from the free-throw line while Bishop's was just 7-for-11.

"We tightened up defensively tonight," said Alex Perno, the Gaiters head coach after the game on Saturday. "We competed hard but could not finish on the offensive end.  Last night we executed very well on offense, we need to put it all together to be successful."

Bishop's (0-10) head into their bye week.  They are next in action on Friday, February 6 at 6 p.m. when they host the UQAM Citadins (6-2).  The Game will follow in the inauguration of the new sports centre and is slated to take place in the newly renovated Mitchell Gym.
