SHERBROOKE, Que. – The Bishop's University men's and women's basketball squads are back in action this week with a home-and-home series with the McGill Redmen and Martlets. They face McGill on Thursday Jan. 8
th in Montreal and on Saturday Jan. 10
th the Gaiters will host their first basketball game of the season. The women tip at 6 p.m. and the men to follow at 8 p.m.
The Lady Gaiters (0-4) will play a pair of games against the No. 3 McGill Martlets (4-0) to open the second half of the 2014-15 season. Bishop's is looking for their first RSEQ win of the season. McGill won their previous meeting 67-39. The Martlets will look to defend their 2014 RSEQ Championship this March in Lennoxville, Que.
The men's crew spent their break gearing up for the season at the Ryerson Invitational. They faced tough competition in Mohawk College and No. 3 Ryerson, falling in all three games they played.
The Gaiters men's squad (3-1) will defend their top spot in the RSEQ standings against McGill (2-2) this weekend. In their last meeting Bishop's won in thrilling fashion with a three-pointer in the final seconds to capture a 60-59 victory over the Redmen. The Gaiters only loss this season, 83-78, came at the hands of UQAM. Bishop's looks ahead to their next 12 games leading into the RSEQ Final-4 at Bishop's. They hope to return to the RSEQ final where last year they fell to McGill.
Kyle Desmarais (Montreal) currently sits in fourth in the RSEQ standings with14.8 points per game.
Matt McLean (Ottawa, Ont.) is sixth in the league with 6.8 rebounds per game. Gaiters point guard
Kurt Caro (Montreal) tops the league with 4.0 assists per game and
Mike Andrews (Oakville, Ont.) leads the RSEQ with 3.3 blocks per game.
The Gaiters take on the McGill Martlets and Redmen in a pair of games this weekend. The first to be played in Montreal on Thursday night and the second will be the Gaiters first home game of the season on Saturday night. Both sets of games are set to tip with the women at 6 p.m. and the men at 8 p.m.
