SHERBROOKE, Que. – In their final home game before the holiday break the Bishop's University women's basketball team host the No. 8 Laval Rouge et Or, Saturday night in Mitchell Gym. Tip off is set for 6 p.m.
After a strong finish in exhibition play, Bishop's has had a slow start to their 2015-16 RSEQ regular season losing 54-35 and 70-44 to the UQAM Citadins (2-0) and No. 3 McGill Martlets respectively.
Noemie Hamel-Petit (Magog, Que.) has been a bright spot for the Lady Gaiters through their first two contests and earned herself the Robert Lafond Provigo Athlete of the Week. She played 74 minutes of a possible 80 playing solid on both ends of the floor. The co-captain was named to the RSEQ Rookie team last season.
Freshman guard,
Ashley Milhomme (Repentigny, Que.), had a solid outing in her first RSEQ action, scoring seven points, grabbing five rebounds and two steals in just 17 minutes on the floor against UQAM.
Edith Noblecilla (Guayaquil, Ecuador), in her third year in purple and silver, showed that she was a veteran to CIS Basketball scoring 10 points against the Martlets. She played 31 minutes, had seven assists, three steals and was a perfect 4-4 shooting from the charity stripe.
Laval (1-1) opened their season to McGill falling 69-60 back on Nov. 6. They found their first win a week later, 52-49 over Concordia (0-2). Laval returns RSEQ Rookie of the Year, Jane Gagne (Chicoutimi, Que.) and Leadership and Social Commitment Award winner, Raphaelle Cote (Maria, Que.).
