SHERBROOKE, Que. – The Bishop's Gaiters gained a quick 27-17 lead over the Laval Rouge et Or after the first quarter but Laval crawled their way back and spoiled the Gaiters last home contest before the holiday break by a final of 83-76 in RSEQ University Men's Basketball action on Saturday night in Lennoxville.
The Gaiters (0-3) came out of the locker room ready to play against the visiting Rouge et Or (1-1). They opened the scoring and shut down Laval's offense through the first and the majority of the second quarter. Bishop's led by as much as 20 points in the second frame but Laval found their scoring touch to head into halftime only down 50-41. Bishop's struggled to find their footing in the third quarter as Laval outscored them 17-5. The Gaiters fought back in the fourth but the damage was done, as Bishop's fell 83-76 to the Rouge et Or.
Third year transfer student,
Peter Weston (Quebec City) lead the Gaiters in his second game in Mitchell Gym, with 19 points on 6-10 shooting and was a perfect 4-4 from the charity stripe.
Abdul Kamane (Montreal) also had a great outing for the Gaiters with 15 points and nine rebounds in 31 minutes of action. Off the Laval bench Thibaud Dezutter (Namur, Belgium) scored a game-high 33 points and put up five rebounds in 34 minutes on the court.
Next for Bishop's is a contest with the Concordia Stingers (2-1) on Saturday afternoon in Montreal. This will be the last game for the Gaiters before the exam period and holiday break. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. at Concordia Gymnasium.
