Box Score MONTREAL, Que. –
Nick Harvey had a double-double to help the Bishop's University Gaiters find their way back from a 16 point deficit to beat the Concordia Stingers 66-60 in RSEQ men's basketball action in Montreal on Saturday afternoon.
Harvey (Saint-Bruno, Que.) scored 11 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to help the Gaiters capture their first win of the season. He was 5-9 shooting from the floor in 26 minutes.
Bishop's started out slow as Concordia scored the first 10 points unanswered and led 25-13 after the first 10 minutes. The Gaiters fought back steadily to trail 33-26 at the half.
Abdul Kamane (Montreal) made seven free throws in the third frame to put the Gaiter within five. Kamane was 8-10 from the charity stripe, had 10 points and five rebounds in 32 minutes on the floor.
Early in the fourth quarter,
Jona Bermillo (Montreal) hit a three point shot for the Gaiters to tie the game at 48. That was followed by a jumper by
Yassin Naji (Lunel, France) to give the visitors their first lead. Concordia's Jaleel Webb (Pierrefonds, Que.) reclaimed it with a long three pointer matched by the Gaiters'
Peter Weston (Quebec City) a possession later. Back-to-back threes by Bermillo and a free throw from Harvey put the Gaiters out of reach. Bishop's won 66-60 over Concordia to tally their first win of the season.
For Concordia, Webb scored 17 points and was 5-7 from beyond the arc. Schneiders Suffrard (Montreal) put up 13 points and had seven rebounds.
Bermillo led the Gaiters with 19 points and added four rebounds and four steals to his stat-line in 32 minutes. Weston scored 12 points in 35 minutes.
The Gaiters are off for the holiday break but will return to action on Jan. 7, 2016 at UQAM and Jan. 9, 2016 versus UQAM at home. Both games are set to start at 8 p.m.
