SHERBROOKE, Que. – The Bishop's Gaiters men's basketball team looks to gain momentum as they play the first two games of a four-game home stand to close out the 2014-15 RSEQ University Basketball Regular season this weekend.. The Concordia Stingers are in town on Friday night and the McGill Redmen are the guests on Saturday. Both games will tip-off at 8 p.m. in the newly renovated Mitchell Gym.
The Gaiters will look to gain an upper hand in securing a playoff spot for the RSEQ Final-4. They will host the second annual event from March 5-7 in Mitchell Gym. Bishop's (6-6) controls their own destiny as they sit in a tie for second place in the conference. Laval (6-6) and Concordia (6-6) join the Gaiters as they chase down first-place McGill (8-4). UQAM (4-8) currently sits on the outside of the playoffs looking in but with four games remaining no position is guaranteed.
The Gaiters hold a 2-1 edge over the Stingers in the season series to date. The squads spilt the games in Montreal, while Bishop's rolled to a 59-40 victory the first time the two teams met in Lennoxville. Friday night will mark the first contest they will play in Mitchell Gym this season.
Saturday night first-place McGill is in town. The Redmen hold the 2-1 advantage in the season series over the Gaiters including a 62-59 victory the last time these two teams tipped off in Lennoxville.
Fifth-year Concordia-transfer
Kyle Desmarais (Montreal) leads the Gaiters averaging 15.2 points per game good for second in the conference. The former league MVP also has 34 assists on the year and 28 steals. He's also tops on the squad in minutes played (34.0 per game). Teammate and fellow former MVP
Mike Andrews (Oakville, Ont.) is returning to all-star form. He's averaging 10.8 points per game, 5.9 rebounds per game and a CIS-best 2.2 blocks per game in 20.8 minutes of court time.
The Bishop's Gaiters begin a four-game home stand to close out the 2014-15 regular season campaign on Friday night when the Concordia Stingers visit Mitchell Gym. Saturday night the McGill Redmen are in town for the back end of a double header. Both games are set to start at 8 p.m. immediately following the women's games each night.
