SHERBROOKE, Que. – Two weeks shy of the RSEQ University Basketball Final-4 set to take place in Mitchell Gym from March 5-7 the Laval Rouge et Or will visit the Bishop's Gaiters. Saturday's encounter will mark the fourth and final time the squads will meet this season. The women tip-off at 6 p.m. with the men to follow at 8 p.m.
The Gaiter women are 0-14 on the year and have been officially eliminated from playoff contention. Despite their record Bishop's has played Laval tough on a couple of occasions. After an 81-42 loss in November, Bishop's dropped a close contest 75-65 to the Rouge et Or in Quebec City on January 23. In their first meeting in Lennoxville a day later Laval won a low-scoring affair 48-36.
The Bishop's men (7-7) are one game away from clinching a playoff spot. That can come as early as Thursday night if the McGill Redmen (9-4) beat the UQAM Citadins (4-9). The Gaiters will secure second place in the league with two wins in their final two games. Should UQAM beat the Redmen Thursday night, Bishop's can still clinch a spot in the post-season with a victory in one of their last two contests.
The Gaiters have unfinished business after losing a 13-point fourth quarter lead to the Rouge et Or the last time these two squads met on January 24. They lost 57-55. That contest was the last the Gaiters played in the New Gym at Bishop's University.
The Laval Rouge et Or are in Lennoxville for a double header on Saturday, February 21. The women will tip-off at 6 p.m. and the men will start at 8 p.m. Both contests are in the newly renovated Mitchell Gym. They will be streamed live at
