SHERBROOKE, Que. – After a week of rest and practice the Gaiters men's and women's basketball squads are back in action on Friday and Saturday night against UQAM. Friday's game will mark the grand opening of the new Bishop's University sports centre and will be played back in Mitchell Gym. Women will tip at 6 p.m. and men follow at 8 p.m. Saturday's games will be in Montreal at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Before their bye week the Lady Gaiters (0-10) fell 48-36 to Laval (6-6) at home.
Noemie Hamel-Petit (Magog, Que.) scored nine points and had 11 boards. The last meeting between Bishop's and UQAM (7-3) took place on Nov. 29, 2014. UQAM took the match 71-36 in Montreal. Senior
Dani Lumley (Sherbrooke, Que.) was the top performer for the Gaiters with eight points and seven rebounds.
To lead into their week off the Gaiters (5-5) split a pair with Laval (6-6). Bishop's took the first on Laval turf but Laval won 57-55 in Lennoxville the night after. The Gaiters suffered their first loss of the season at the end of November against UQAM (3-7) in Montreal. The Gaiters fell 83-78 before the holiday break.
Kyle Desmarais (Montreal) had 21 points and
Jona Bermillo (Montreal) had 18 points in the game.
Desmarais currently sits second with 14.9 points in the RSEQ standings through ten games.
Mike Andrews (Oakville, Ont.) leads the league with 2.5 blocked shots.
The Gaiters will host UQAM on Friday night at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. in Mitchell Gym and be in Montreal on Saturday night for a 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. tip with UQAM. Friday's games will be part of the grand opening of the Bishop's University sports centre and the first games played in Mitchell gym since last February. Both sets of games will be webcasted online:
