SHERBROOKE – Craig Norman and the Bishop's Gaiters Department of Athletics and Recreation agreed to terms on Monday, June 1
st ensuring that Norman will continue patrol the sidelines in Mitchell Gym as an Assistant Basketball Coach. He will contribute to both the men's and women's programs. The former CIS Coach of the Year was the Associate Head Coach on the 2015 RSEQ Champion Bishop's Gaiters men's team.
The Gaiters felt Norman was a key cog in their successful 2015 campaign and are ecstatic to have him join the team in this increased role.
"Craig will be an asset to not only both basketball programs here at Bishop's, but also the entire athletic department," said
Joey Sabo, Associate Athletic-Director for the university. "He is a guy whose experience is unmatched. Having been so close to the men's team during their run to CIS Nationals this year it is obvious the players and his fellow coaches respect him. I really believe that he is a 'Bishop's' person and will fit right into the family."
Norman's duties will include helping both head coaches recruit and implement strategies to help the Gaiters be successful; work with the Gaiters summer basketball camp; and communicate with the student-athletes to ensure they are prospering not only on the basketball court but in the classroom as well. He will work closely with first-year athletes during their transition into university basketball.
For his part Norman is very much looking forward to his increased role on the Gaiters staff.
"I think Bishop's is a diamond in the rough," said Norman, the 2004 CIS Coach of the Year. "It is a great place and the support the department and school has for its teams and athletes is second to none. I think I can contribute to this team; I look forward to helping both programs grow and become successful."
Norman came to Bishop's for the 2014-15 season after having been a head coach with both the RMC Paladins (1997-2004) and the McGill Redmen (2004-2010). More recently he coached the Champlain-St. Lambert men's program from 2011-2013. Norman is a NCCP Level IV coach, one of the few in Canada. He was also an all-Canadian during his playing days with the Concordia Stingers.
Norman will begin his duties with the basketball teams immediately as the Gaiters start to implement a plan for the 2015-16 season.
