SHERBROOKE, Que.  – The Gaiters men's basketball team is back on the hardwood this weekend against No. 7 McGill for a home-and-home series.  They face-off on Thursday night in Montreal and Saturday night in Mitchell Gym. Both games will tip at 8 p.m.
 
Bishop's is coming off a 77-73 win over Laval (5-5) in Quebec City after falling to the Rouge et Or 75-68 in Lennoxville the night before.  This was the first win of 2016 for the Gaiters who now boast a 2-6 record.
 
In the first game against Laval, Provigo Robert Lafond Athlete of the Week, David Belanger (Sherbrooke, Que.) had a double-double with 24 points and 10 rebounds.  Jona Bermillo (Montreal) and Abdul Kamane (Montreal) both scored 13 points on the night.  Belanger backed up his performance on Friday night with 18 points and six rebounds Saturday in Quebec City.  Bermillo led Bishop's with 19 points in the win. 
 
In the Redmen and Gaiters last meeting, on Nov. 14, McGill won 94-68 in Mitchell Gym.  Peter Weston (Quebec City) led Bishop's with 19 points, Abdul Kamane (Montreal) and Bermillo had 12 points each.  On the McGill side, Jenning Leung (Los Banos, Philippines) put up 29 points and Dele Ogundokun (Hamilton, Ont.) had 21. 
 
McGill has fallen to second in the RSEQ standings after losing twice to Concordia (6-4) over the weekend.  They lost 95-83 at Concordia in double overtime and 68-57 at home to the Stingers.
 
"Despite McGill's recent struggles they are still the team to beat," said Gaiters bench boss Rod Gilpin.  "We will do our best to compete this weekend." 
 
The Gaiters and Redmen face-off on Thursday night at McGill and on Saturday night in Lennoxville.  Both contests will tip at 8 p.m.  The NBA is in Lennoxville as part of their all-star tour.  There will be festivities all weekend long.
