SHERBROOKE, Que. –
Eric Mawdsley scored two goals, both in the final 12 minutes that were the game winner and insurance marker as the Bishop's Gaiters men's lacrosse team topped the Queen's Gaels in Lennoxville. A wet Coulter Field played host to a CUFLA East playoff game on Saturday night.
Early on the teams exchanged blows with the host Gaiters holding a 4-3 lead after the first quarter. The second stanza was a story of runs as the Gaels netted two straight to open followed by three in a row from the Gaiters. Bishop's entered halftime with a 7-5 advantage.
The third frame saw a trio of goals from the surging visitors and a lone tally from the hosts to level the score at 8-8 heading into the final frame with the season in the balance.
Bishop's rebounded in the final frame although the game was still up for grabs until the waning minutes. The Gaiters tallied four goals to the Gaels two for a 12-10 final as Bishop's punched their ticket to the 2016 Baggataway Cup in St. Catharines, Ont., slated for November 4-6.
