GAITERS SUFFER DEFEAT AT THE HANDS OF THE REDMEN

MONTREAL – The Bishop's University Gaiters football team (0-3) dropped a 43-9 decision to the McGill Redmen (2-1) on Friday night in Montreal. 
 
McGill opened the scoring with a three-yard touchdown run by Anthony Deschamps (Montreal) four minutes into the first quarter.  To close out the first frame, the Redmen gave up the two points to make it 7-2 in their favour. 
 
In the second quarter, McGill controlled the board, a 23-yard pass from Fred Paquette-Perrault (Montreal) to Benjamin Plu (Le Mans, France) put them up 14-2.  The Gaiters gave up the safety to add to McGill's total.  Findlay Brown (Winnipeg) kicked a 43-yard field goal to make the total 19-2 at halftime. 
 
In the third frame, Jordan Ngantsi (Ottawa) intercepted Paquette-Perrault's pass to gain possession on the McGill 15-yard line. Rookie quarterback, Jaeden Marwick (Regina) executed his first CIS touchdown with a 20-yard pass to Alex Bouffard (Sherbrooke, Que.).   The third quarter ended with the Redmen up 26-9. 
 
McGill once again controlled the score in the fourth with two more touchdowns and a 36-yard field goal by Findlay.  The last score came off a blocked punt by Bishop's, the ball was recovered by McGill's Louis Brouillette (Sherbrooke, Que.) for the 17-yard rush and touchdown.  The Redmen ousted the Gaiters 43-9. 
 
By The Numbers
Bishop's had 13 first downs compared to McGill's 24.  The Gaiters were 15 for 49-yards rushing to the Redmen's 20 for 110-yards and three touchdowns.  With the passing game, Bishop's was 21 for 35 with 2 interceptions and a touchdown for a total of 230 yards.  McGill was 20 for 38 with 2 interceptions and a touchdown for a total of 276 yards.  In the penalty column, Bishop's had 17 for 161-yards and the Redmen had 12 for 192-yards.

Bishop's is next in action on homecoming weekend at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24 against the Saint Mary's Huskies.
