Men’s Basketball: Gaiters host Golden Hawks to close out non-conference play

SHERBROOKE, Que. - The Bishop's Gaiters men's basketball team non-conference schedule brings them back home this weekend for a single game against the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks on Friday. Tip off at the Mitchell Gym is set for 6 p.m.

The Gaiters (0-7) dropped both games last week at the House-Laughton tournament in Ottawa, falling 95-59 to the perennial national champions from Carleton on Friday, and 75-67 to the Acadia Axemen on Saturday. Joany Castor-Thadal led the Gaiters over the weekend with 18 points on Friday and another 13 on Saturday.

So far this season, Abdul Kamane (Montreal, Que./Vanier College) is leading the Gaiters with an average of 13.7 points per game, while Castor-Thadal is close behind with 13.1 ppg. Kamane is also the Gaiters' leading rebounder, with 5.5 per game, with David Belanger (Sherbrooke, Que./Champlain-St. Lambert) grabbing 5.3 boards per game.

The Golden Hawks, who will be making their first trip to Lennoxville, are 2-2 on the year, after defeating Regina and MacEwen. The Hawks have dropped both their games to Quebec opponents so far this year: a 95-94 (OT) loss to Laval on Sept. 28 and an 80-76 loss to UQAM last weekend. Last year, WLU went 13-17 overall (9-11 OUA) and lost in the first round of the Ontario playoffs to the Laurentian Voyageurs.

After Friday's game, the Gaiters have two weeks to get ready for the RSEQ season opener, set for Saturday, Nov. 4, at the Mitchell Gym. They will host the UQAM Citadins, with tip off set for 8 p.m.
