Gaiters looking to stuff Axemen in Thanksgiving clash

THIS WEEK: The Bishop's Gaiters (1-3) are home for the Thanksgiving holiday, as they host the Acadia Axemen (3-2) on Saturday at Coulter Field. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
 
THE RECORDS: The Gaiters are 1-3, and had their second and final bye of the season last week. The Gaiters dropped their last game, 37-27 at home to StFX, two weeks ago. The Axemen are 3-2, having also split their last two games, most recently a 33-14 win over Mount Allison last week.

TICKETS, PLEASE: Reserved seats for Saturday's game, and all future games, are available at www.gaiters.ca/tickets for $15 each. Tickets are also available on game day at a cost $15 for reserved seats, $10 for general admission, with reduced prices for high school and Champlain students ($5) and children aged 5-12 ($2).
 
LAST TIME OUT: The Bishop's Gaiters scored a pair of late touchdowns, but could not complete a second straight miracle comeback, as they dropped a 37-27 decision to the St. Francis Xavier X-Men in Atlantic University Sport action at Coulter Field on Sept. 23. Kaion Julien-Grant scored three touchdowns for the X-Men and finished with 312 all-purpose yards. The Gaiters trailed 23-1 at halftime, and 30-12 after the third quarter, but mounted a charge near the end, on touchdowns by Nathan Walker and Alex Bouffard. For the Gaiters, Mathieu Demers (Quebec City, Que./Cégep LImoilou) finished with 206 yards as he went 29-for-43 passing. He also carried six times for 18 yards and a touchdown. Stephen Casey's first AUS action was successful, as he went 4-for-8 for 44 yards and two touchdowns. Keith Normandin had a nice day in the Bishop's backfield, finishing with 69 yards on eight carries. Walker had 10 catches for 76 yards, including a touchdown.
 
WHEN LAST WE MET: The Gaiters dropped their first game in Atlantic University Sport, as they fell 27-10 to the Acadia Axemen last Saturday in Wolfville. The Gaiters trailed 18-0 at halftime, pulled to within 15 points at 25-10 after three quarters, but were unable to draw closer. Acadia quarterback Cody Cluett led the Axemen as he went 36-for-44 for 302 yards and threw two touchdown passes. For the Gaiters, Dylan Tucker (Campbell River, B.C./Timberline S.S.) went 18-for-32 for 132 yards and a TD pass. Trevon Wilson-Millings led the ground attack with 74 yards on 14 carries. He also caught three passes for 34 yards, including a touchdown. Defensively, Arnaud Dandin (Paris, France/Cégep de Thetford) made 10.5 tackles, while Adam Plamondon (Quebec City, Que./Cégep Limoilou) had 1.5 sacks.
 
THE SERIES:
The Gaiters and Axemen have played five regular-season games in their history, with Acadia holding a 3-2 edge in the series. The last matchup in Lennoxville was on Sept. 18, 2010 – a 31-16 win for the Gaiters.
 
MEN FOR ALL PURPOSES: Trey Millings and Nathan Walker are currently fourth and fifth in the AUS in all-purpose yards. Walker is averaging 179 yards per game, while Millings has put up 155 yards per contest. Walker led the Gaiters two weeks ago with 186 yards in the Homecoming game against
 
HE'S GOT LEGS: Veteran punter Vincent Dubé is leading the AUS with a 39.0 average this season, including a longest boot of 64 yards. He is the Gaiters' leading scorer this year with 20 points, pushing past the 100-point mark for his career, and was the AUS Special Teams Player of the Week after the Gaiters' win at Mount Allison.
