SHERBROOKE, Que. – After a strong start to their 2017-18 campaign the Gaiters men's basketball team is back in action at Concordia. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. in the Stingers season opener.
RSEQ Week 1:
Bishop's (1-8, 1-0 RSEQ) grabbed their first win of 2017-18, 83-77 over UQAM (3-10, 0-1 RSEQ), to open the RSEQ men's basketball season. The Gaiters were led by
Abdul Kamane (Montreal, Que./Vanier College), who had 24 points in 28 minutes on the floor.
Joany Castor Thadal (Saint-Leonard, Que./Champlain-St. Lambert) had 22 points and
Alex Boissé (Sherbrooke, Que.) had 19 points and four boards and four assists.
2017-18 Stingers:
Concordia went 5-13 in preseason play. Returning for the Stingers is Ken Beaulieu, three-time RSEQ all-star, and team leader in points and rebounds in 2016-17. Veteran guard Ricardo Monge is also back.
2016-17 Match-ups:
Concordia took all four of the match-ups last season.

Stat Leaders:
In the early going of the 2017-18 U Sports men's basketball season,
David Belanger (Sherbrooke, Que./Champlain-St. Lambert) sits second in the national standings with 13 rebounds per game. Kamane is seventh overall, averaging 24 points per game.
Athlete of the Week:
Kamane was named the Provigo, Robert Lafond Athlete of the Week for his performance on Saturday night that solidified the Gaiters first win of the season.
