SHERBROOKE, Que. – The Bishop's Gaiters men's basketball team will head to Montreal on Saturday afternoon to take on the McGill Redmen. Tipoff for the game at the Love Competition Hall is set for 3 p.m.
The Gaiters (5-16, 2-11 RSEQ) dropped their only game last week, a heartbreaking 70-68 loss at the hands of the Laval Rouge et Or – a loss that effectively knocked the Gaiters out of the RSEQ playoff race. (Bishop's was officially eliminated by Laval's win over UQAM on Friday night.)
McGill (17-5, 11-3 RSEQ) comes into the game after a 72-45 romp over the Concordia Stingers on Thursday night. They are winners of five straight games, and eight of their past nine.
Saturday's game is the fourth game between the two teams this year. The Redmen have won all three matchups so far this year, by scores of 81-73 (Nov. 26), 79-62 (Feb. 2) and 87-59 (Feb. 4).
The Gaiters' offence has been led by
Jona Bermillo (Montreal, Que./Vanier College), who is averaging 13.4 points per game. He leads the conference in both assists (3.8 per game) and steals (2.6 per game). Sophomore
Abdul Kamane (Montreal, Que./Vanier College ) is currently fifth in the province in points per game (12.3) and seventh in rebounds per game (6.1).
McGill has the league's highest-rated offence, scoring 74.9 points per game, and the top-rated defence, allowing only 60.6 ppg. Their scoring has been led by Jenning Leung, who is averaging 14.0 points per game.
