Women’s Basketball: Gaiters head to McGill for the second time in two weeks

SHERBROOKE, Que. – The Bishop's Gaiters hit the road for their antepenultimate game of 2016-17 as they visit the McGill Martlets in Montreal on Saturday afternoon. The game at the Love Competition Hall in downtown Montreal is set to tip off at 1 p.m.

The Gaiters (7-13, 2-11 RSEQ) dropped their only game last week, 63-39 to No. 1-ranked Laval on Saturday. In that game, the Gaiters held the top-ranked Rouge et Or to only 17 first-half points, but the visitors broke the game open in the second half with an 8-2 run early in the third quarter and a 12-0 run to open the fourth. The loss, combined with wins by Concordia (13-11, 6-8 RSEQ) over UQAM last week and McGill on Thursday have knocked the Gaiters out of the playoff race.

McGill (16-9, 8-7 RSEQ) comes into the game on the heels of Thursday's 58-53 loss to the Stingers, which snapped a four-game winning streak. In that game, Concordia led by as many as 24 points and held off a fourth-quarter Martlet comeback to clinch a playoff spot.

This is the fourth and final matchup of the season between the Gaiters and the Martlets, with McGill holding a 2-1 edge in the season series. The Gaiters won the first game of the season between the squads, cruising to a 62-40 win on Nov. 26 in Lennoxville. Two weeks ago, the Martlets swept a home-and-home series, as they eked out a 75-73 victory in Montreal on Feb. 2, and scored  68-59 win two nights later in Lennoxville.

Fourth-year point guard Edith Noblecilla (Guayaquil, Ecuador/Santo Domingo de Guzmain) continues to sit second in Canada with 4.8 assists per game, trailing only Jerika Baldin of Lakehead, who has 6.8, with both players having two games left in the regular season. Noblecilla has scored 10.5 points and grabbed 5.8 rebounds per game. The Gaiters' leading scorer and rebounder is Mara Marchizotti (Buenos Aires, Argentina/), who
