Box Score The Bishop's Gaiters had five players in double figures, but it was not enough to withstand the McGill offence, as they fell 89-71 to the No. 7-ranked Redmen in Quebec university men's basketball action in Montreal, Saturday. The 404 in attendance at the Love Competition Hall saw the Redmen jump out to a 27-16 first-quarter lead, and a 51-33 halftime edge. McGill improves to 12-3 in conference play (18-5 overall), while the Gaiters fall to 5-17 overall, 2-12 in league play.
For Bishop's, Alex Boissé came off the bench to lead the Gaiters with 15 points, while
Abdul Kamane (Montreal, Que./Vanier College ) had a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds.
Joany Castor-Thadal (Saint-Leonard, Que./Champlain-St. Lambert) added 12 points, while
Yassin Naji (Lunel, France/Lycée Pothier Orleans) chipped in with 11 and
Jona Bermillo (Montreal, Que./Vanier College) scored 10 for the Gaiters.
McGill was led by Michael Peterkin and Dele Ogundokun, who scored 15 points each. Jenning Leung added 14 for the Redmen, while Noah Daoust added 10. Ogundokun led the Redmen on the boards with seven rebounds, as McGill outrebounded Bishop's 41-29.
The Redmen shot 48 per cent from the field, while Bishop's hit 39 per cent of their attempts overall.
The Gaiters return to action on Wednesday, February 22, as they host the Concordia Stingers at the Mitchell Gym. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m.
