Abdul Kamane (Montreal, Que./Vanier College ) scored a team-high 19 points, but it was not enough for the Bishop's Gaiters to upset the No. 8-ranked McGill Redmen in Montreal. The Gaiters fell 79-62 before 212 people at the Love Competition Hall.
The Gaiters (5-14, 2-9 RSEQ) trailed 23-13 after the first quarter, but cut the gap to five points, 35-30 at halftime. Bishop's pulled to within one, at 35-34 early in the quarter, but a 19-3 run by the Redmen made the score 56-39 with just under four minutes to play in the quarter, putting the game out of reach.
Kamane went 4-for-9 from the field and 10-for-13 from the free-throw line to lead the Bishop's scorers, while
Jona Bermillo (Montreal, Que./Vanier College) added 15 to go with a team-high six rebounds, and
Joany Castor-Thadal (Saint-Leonard, Que./Champlain-St. Lambert) had 10 points.
For McGill (14-5, 8-3 RSEQ), Dele Ogundokun's 19 points was a team high, with Michael Peterkin coming off the bench to score 16 and Jenning Leung chipping in with 13 points. François Bourque had a double-doulbe with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
The teams return to action on Saturday, as they close out the home-and-home series at the Mitchell Gym. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m.
