Gaiters hang in but Canisius pulls away late
Canisius 81, Bishop's 60… Gaiters hung in well down just 10 at half and then got it down to 8 with about 5 minutes remaining but Golden Griffins pushed away after a 7-0 run to get it back to 15 as Canisius moved to 2-0 on their tour of Canada which continues tomorrow night at Concordia.
6'5? Abdul Kamane (Montreal, Que./Vanier College ) was in foul trouble for much of the afternoon, finishing with 8 points but coach Rod Gilpin was encouraged by the return of 6'11" Jonah Fogg (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. /Korah C.V.S. ) who missed virtually all of last season with a concussion and started this afternoon. Fogg finished with 7 points.
6'1? sophomore shooting guard Joany Castor-Thadal (Saint-Leonard, Que./Champlain-St. Lambert), usually instant offense off the bench for Bishop's, led the way with 15 points including three 3's while 6'5? David Belanger (Sherbrooke, Que./Champlain-St. Lambert), who has battled injuries the past two seasons, is back for his fifth and final season and he added 13. 6'2? pg Kevin Davis (Baltimore, Md./Digital Harbor H.S.), a Baltimore, MD native who transferred in from Columbia Bible College and missed all of last season due to injury, made his Gaiters debut and added 11 points as a starter.
Bishop's has two more NCAA games scheduled: next Saturday against Northeastern in Ottawa at Carleton's Ravens Nest and then on the 26th against Hofstra at Vanier College in Montreal.
