The Bishop's University lacrosse team will hit the road this weekend for a pair of games against the Nipissing Lakers in North Bay, Ont. The first is set for 6 p.m. on Saturday night and the second for Sunday morning at 9 a.m.
Season Start:
The Gaiters opened their season defeating the Queen's Gaels 16-5 at home on the weekend. Through one game for the Gaiters,
Xavier Perron (Sherbrooke, Que./Champlain-Lennoxville) and rookie Samuel Firth lead the team with four goals each. Nipissing had a busy start to their season with three games in four days. They beat Ottawa 16-15 and lost to McGill 20-6 and 17-11. After their weekend, Scott Dominey and Nick Chaykowsky lead the Lakers with 11 and 10 goals respectively.
Last Year:
Nipissing and Bishop's played both their contests in Lennoxville last year, with the Gaiters winning both, 18-5 and 15-12.
Coach Rob Engleken:
"We are super excited to head up to North Bay for a double header with Nipissing! They have a talented group of guys and it will be a good test for our young squad.
We look forward to a good team bonding trip. We are still trying to get guys to fit into proper lines and roles, so hopefully our depth will allow us to bring back a couple of 'Ws'."
Next Up:
As per tradition the Gaiters will host the McGill Redmen on the Thursday night of homecoming to kick-off the festivities. Face-off is set for 8:30 p.m. on Sept. 21.
