SHERBROOKE, Que. – Freshman
Frédérique Rivard (Granby, , Cosmos de Granby) netted the Bishop's Gaiters' first hat trick on the soccer pitch since 2008 and led Bishop's in convincing fashion to a 4-0 victory over their cross-town rivals, the Sherbrooke Vert et Or on Monday night at 'Fortress Coulter' in RSEQ University women's soccer action.
How It Happened:
Bishop's pressed early and Rivard's speed seemed to pose problems from Sherbrooke. After captain
Sarah-Kim Bergeron (Calgary, Alta./Bishop Carroll S.S.)'s effort earned the Gaiters' a corner kick the veteran made no mistake on her cross and
Jessica Dodig (Bolton, Ont.) finished in style to give the Gaiters their first lead of the season and Dodig her first U SPORTS tally.
Bishop's did not sit back as Rivard sent the Coulter Field faithful into a frenzy by scoring in the 44
th and 45
th minute. The hosts grabbed a 3-0 halftime advantage. The Gaiters weathered a Sherbrooke storm early in the second half and Rivard's hat trick goal came in the 80
th minute after a great touch from
Larissa Lehmann (Montreal, Que./Dawson College). Lehmann finished with two assists, as did Bergeron.
Between the pipes, in her second university start
Danielle Desrochers (North Vancouver, B.C./Handsworth S.S.) earned the blank sheet by making five saves.
