MONTREAL – The Bishop's Gaiters could not complete the sweep of top-ranked McGill this weekend, falling 66-57 to the Martlets in RSEQ women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon in Love Competition Hall.
Bishop's and McGill fought hard through the first and second frame with the Gaiters taking the small 34-32 lead into the half after a last minute three pointer by
Maeva Dinalle (Paris, France/). The Gaiters grabbed the quick six-point lead to open the second half. Bishop's had as much as a nine-point lead in the third but the Martlets closed the gap to five with 10 minutes left on the clock. The Gaiters could not sink a basket until the three-minute mark of the fourth, by this point McGill took back the lead and never looked back. The Martlets took the contest 66-57.
Junior, guard
Maude Archambault (Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures, Que./Collège Montmorency) led Bishop's with 15 points and in her 25 minutes on the floor.
Mara Marchizotti (Buenos Aires, Argentina/) had 12 points, five rebounds and three steals and
Edith Noblecilla (Guayaquil, Ecuador/Santo Domingo de Guzmain) had nine points, seven assists and four rebounds. Rookie,
Marie-Evrardine Berrouette (Montreal, Que./Dawson College) had seven points and nine rebounds in her 24 minutes on the floor.
McGill was led by Alex Kiss-Rusk with a double-double, 14 points and 15 rebounds. Frederique Potvin had 14 points, five assists and four rebounds.
Next up:
The Gaiters are off next week but will face-off with UQAM on Feb. 8
th at 6 p.m. in Montreal. After that they will go to Quebec City to take on Laval at 1 p.m. on Feb. 11
th and will host the Rouge et Or on Feb. 13 at 6 p.m. in Mitchell Gym.
