Men’s Rugby wraps-up Regular Season Friday

LENNOXVILLE, Que. – With one league game left for the Bishop's Gaiters in RSEQ University Men's Rugby there is still a lot to determine before the post-season begins. One thing is sure; the Gaiters kick off with the Montreal Carabins on Friday, Oct 19 at 7 p.m. in Montreal to close out their regular season.

RSEQ Standings

6 ETS 4 0 4 0 32 136 0 2 2
7 Montréal 4 0 4 0 45 134 0 1 1

Dissecting the standings, Bishop's is currently in fourth place but does hold any head-to-head tie break over both Sherbrooke and Ottawa, however with the bonus point system Sherbrooke is a point ahead of the Gaiters in the standings.

Teams get one bonus point for scoring four tries in a game and/or one bonus point for losing by less than seven points.

Bishop's can still finish third, second is out of reach, however, they will clinch a playoff spot with one point on Friday night.

The Gaiters play Montreal Friday to close out their season while Sherbrooke has McGill left a home next weekend.

The top four teams qualify for playoffs. The fourth seed will travel to the first place team while third plays at second.

The RSEQ schedule is available here.

Last Time out
Bishop's is coming off a convincing 34-0 win over ETS last weekend in Montreal, while the Carabins fell 39-12 to the Sherbrooke Vert et Or in Sherbrooke.

With the new seven-team round robin format, the Gaiters and Carabins will only meet once.  Last year Bishop's beat Montreal 25-20 in their only meeting.

Coach's Corner
"We have to be disciplined," said Charles Goode, Gaiters' head coach. "A lot of their players might only be around for one semester so if they get a red card it's not going to play on. Our discipline has been great all season; we will stress it again for this game. Our set pieces have improved since the McGill game; I will be looking for us to continue to move forward with our lineouts and scrums. Montreal has a big pack but our fitness should be better so we will have to play our game and move the ball around and tire them out. We know we still have a good chance at finishing third in the conference but have to take care of business Friday night."
