LENNOXVILLE, Que. – The Bishop's Gaiters lacrosse team will host the Carleton Ravens on Saturday afternoon on Coulter Field to close out their 2018 regular season.
Gaiters (3-6)
Last weekend the Gaiters fell 12-11 to the Trent Excalibur (8-1). After a scoreless first 10 minutes, the Gaiters exploded for three goals in less than two minutes. They netted three more before the end of the first stanza and led 6-0 after one. Trent tried to grab momentum in the second. They scored three of the first four goals, but Bishop's held on to keep an 8-3 lead at the break. Trent scored six unanswered goals in the third quarter. That tied the score at nine heading into the last 20 minutes. Momentum went back and forth in the fourth quarter.
Joel Wright (Newmarket, Ont./Sir William Mulock S.S.) gave Bishop's an 11-10 lead with five minutes left. Trent's Nick Finlay found the back of the net with less than three minutes to go to equalize and then he scored the winner with less than 10 seconds left to take the contest. Sam Firth (Ottawa, Ont./Nepean H.S.) had four goals and two assists.
Ravens (0-9)
Carleton lost their last contest to Nipissing (4-4) 23-6 in North Bay, Ont. The Ravens have yet to win a game this season. Hayden Cummings is Carleton's top scorer, with 14 goals and five assists through eight games.
Coach's Corner
"We just have to keep working on our systems, that's the bottom line," said head coach Rob Engelken. "We need to execute better, we know when we do we can play with any team, and that's the plan against Carleton, to execute better."
Next up
The Gaiters have solidified their fifth place spot and will play the second place team in the CUFLA East playoff round slated for the first weekend of November.
