Abdul Kamane (Montreal, Que./Vanier College) scored a game-high 29 points but it wasn't enough for the Bishop's Gaiters as they fell, 93-71 to the No. 6-ranked McGill Redmen in Quebec university men's basketball action in Montreal, Saturday. The conference's leading scorer went 8-for-12 from the field and 10-for-15 from the free-throw line as he led all scorers.
McGill (19-4, 12-2 RSEQ) was led by 28 points from Alex Paqquin, who drained six three-pointers. The only other Redmen in double figures was Dele Ogundokun, who had 11 points, but McGill got scoring from all 12 players in their lineup.
Bishop's (5-20, 5-10 RSEQ) also got a career-high 17 points from
Kevin Davis (Baltimore, Md./Digital Harbor H.S.) as the point guard from Baltimore went a natty 6-for-10 from the field.
The Redmen led 28-13 after the first quarter and 52-34 at halftime. McGill shot 44.7 per cent from the field, while the Gaiters were 46.4 per cent of their shots. However, the Redmen had 20 more field goal attempts than the Gaiters, 76 to 56, thanks in part to 23 Bishop's turnovers.
The Gaiters are locked into fourth place in the RSEQ standings, and will play McGill, who has clinched the regular season pennant, in a conference semifinal. The date and time for that game has yet to be announced.
The Gaiters close out the regular season on Friday, Feb. 23 as they host the Concordia Stingers at the Mitchell Gym. The game is set to start at 8 p.m.
