SHERBROOKE, Que. – The Bishop's Gaiters football team hosts the St. Mary's Huskies on Saturday, Sept. 1 in Atlantic University Sport (AUS) action. It is Bishop's home opener with kickoff is set for 7 p.m. on Coulter Field and is part of the university's annual 'move-in day' festivities.
All-Time
The AUS foes will meet for the third time since Bishop's joined the conference prior to last season. SMU won both contests in 2017 by scores of 40-21 and 55-11. Prior to last year, the Gaiters and Huskies split their four games during the AUS-RSEQ crossover.
Last Week
The Bishop's Gaiters (0-1) opened the AUS campaign in Sackville, N.B. where they fell 36-22 to the Mount Allison Mounties (1-0). Gaiters' quarterback
Mathieu Demers (Lévis, Que./Cégep LImoilou) was 23-33 for 267 yards and two touchdowns.
Nathan Walker (Brampton, Ont./St. Roch C.S.S.) caught six of those balls for 100 yards and a major score. Walker also returned one kick and three punts and was Bishop's University's Athlete of the Week.
Meanwhile SMU played at home and beat the St. FX X-Men 20-13. Kicker
Brian Hope led the way for the Huskies en route to earning AUS Special Teams Player of the Week honours. He was 4-6 on field goal attempts including a long of 36 yards. He also averaged 34.8 yards on four punts.
Kaleb Scott started a pivot for SMU. He went 18-28 for 208 yards and three interceptions.
Jonathan Cimankinda was their workhorse out of the backfield. He carried 21 times for 105 yards.
Hope and Walker were both named AUS all-stars last season.
