Bishop’s back after break; tip-off twice with Stingers

LENNOXVILLE, Que. - For the first time since Dec.1 the Bishop's Gaiters men's basketball team will be in game action. Thursday the Gaiters are in Montreal to face the No.9 Concordia Stingers while on Saturday the foes tip-off once again, this time in the friendly confines of Mitchell Gym.  Both RSEQ University games are at 8 p.m.

Where we stand
After a sizzling 3-0 start to the year, the Gaiters (7-6 vs U SPORTS) dropped their next three to finish the first semester with a .500 record.

Concordia (8-5 vs U SPORTS) meanwhile sits atop the RSEQ Standings at 4-1. Ironically, their only blemish came at the hands of last place UQAM Citadins.

Holiday Hangover?
Bishop's hopes there will be no holiday hangover. They did not play any official games but did travel to Kingston for a training camp with the Queen's Gaels.

Concordia meanwhile took a different approach. They played a trio of games in Florida over the Christmas break.

Last Time Out
Concordia outlasted the Gaiters in a wild affair in their only previous meeting this season in Montreal.  The Stingers held on for a 105-91 victory on Nov. 24. Four Stingers and three Gaiters scored in double figures led by the Gaiters' Kevin Davis (Baltimore, MD/Digital Harbor H.S.) and Abdul Kamane (Montreal, Que./Vanier College) who each scored 26. Ricardo Monge tallied 24 for Concordia including an 11-11 performance from the charity stripe.

League Leaders
Monge and Kamane sit tied for second in the RSEQ in scoring at 18.2 points per game.  For Concordia Adrian Armstrong and Olivier Simon are also in the top-5 in scoring with 18 and 17 points per game respectively.  Bishop's Kevin Davis (Baltimore, MD/Digital Harbor H.S.) is sixth at 15.7 per game.

Coach's Corner
"Concordia's core group has played together for a while and they play well together," said Gaiters' head coach Rod Gilpin. "We have been practicing and we played in practice but understand it's not the same. It's just the nature of what it is."
