Bishop’s to face UQAM in back-to-back

LENNOXVILLE, Que. – As the Bishop's Gaiters men's basketball team heads into the second half of their season, they have the chance to but distance between themselves and the UQAM Citadins for the fourth and final RSEQ playoff spot.  On Thursday Bishop's and UQAM tip-off in Montreal while on Saturday they play in Mitchell Gym. Both games are at 8 p.m.
 
Wide Open
The 2018-19 RSEQ University men's basketball conference is still wide open. Concordia sits atop the standings but their lone loss came to the last-place Citadins.  In the middle three teams (McGill, Laval and Bishop's) all have three wins.

Last time out
Bishop's is coming off a 99-94 overtime loss to the Stingers last Saturday in an absolutely wild game.  Andrew Howarth (Oakville, Ont./Thomas A. Blakelock H.S.) had a career-high 19 points in the loss while Nervens Demosthene (Terrebonne, Que./Cegep de Montmorency) chalked up 13 assists.
 
That came two days after the teams' traded blows in Montreal. Concordia held on for a 78-68 win in that one.
 
UQAM opened 2019 with a pair of losses to the Laval Rouge et Or last weekend. They fell 89-84 in Montreal and 84-67 in Quebec City.
 
So We Meet Again
Bishop's opened their 2018-19 campaign against the Citadins in Lennoxville on Nov. 10. Kevin Davis (Baltimore, MD/Digital Harbor H.S.) scored 19 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead the Gaiters to a 78-75 win. Abdul Kamane (Montreal, Que./Vanier College) scored 17 while Jordan Thornhill (Montreal, Que./John Abbott College) chipped in with 13. Four Citadins reached double figures led by Jerry Joseph who scored 19 points. Alix Lochard and Ibrahima Sylla added 14 and Christopher Adu chipped in with 11.
 
Coach's Corner
"UQAM is talented, tough and athletic," said Gaiters' head coach Rod Gilpin. "They have the league's top rookie, a veteran point guard and seven guys who are threats to score.
 
"We have to make our own luck and know the conference will not be decided this weekend."
