Gaiters host Mounties in AUS Semifinal Saturday

REVISED - Gametime changed to 6 p.m.

LENNOXVILLE, Que. – For the first time since 2013 and just the second time since 1994 the Bishop's Gaiters will host a post-season football game in Lennoxville, Que. Saturday's 6 p.m.. kickoff on Coulter Field against the Mount Allison Mounties will also mark the first time the Gaiters will compete in the AUS playoffs since joining the league in 2017.

All-Time
Bishop's is 5-6 all-time against the Mounties. The series is split 3-3 in Lennoxville.  Gaiters' head coach Cherif Nicolas is 2-4 (1-2 in Lennoxville) while Mounties' bench boss Peter Fraser is 3-1 (1-1 on Coulter Field).

This Year
Bishop's topped the Mounties in Week 4 of the AUS season 27-23 on Coulter Field. Gaiters' defensive back Nicholas Cartagenise (Brampton, Ont./Agincourt CI) had three interceptions including one he returned for a touchdown in that game.

Mt.A got the best of the Gaiters in Sackville, N.B. in Week 9.  They used 27 second quarter points to propel themselves to a 35-13 victory.

Statistically Speaking
Gaiters' first-year quarterback Charles Aubry (Laval, Que./College Lionel-Groulx) finished second in the conference with 1563 passing yards. He threw seven touchdown passes and nine interceptions. He also rushed 26 times for 137 yards and a touchdown.

Louis-Philippe Gregoire (Jonquière, Que./Cégep de Jonquière) was the workhorse in the backfield for Bishop's.  He ended the year second in the conference with 630 yards on 127 carries.

On defense, Cartagenise finished the year with four picks, all against the Mounties. That tied him for second in the conference only behind Mount Allison's Lucas Cormier who had five.

Louve Moussenguet (St-Jerome, Que./Cégep de St-Jérôme) spent the most time of anyone in opponent's backfields. His 5.5 sacks and 8.5 tackles for losses both topped the league.  He led Bishop's with 45 tackles.

The Mounties' Josh Hicks was the top receiver in the AUS thanks in part to his 16 receptions for 300 yards in Week 10. He ended the year with 43 catches for 739 yards and three touchdowns.

Special teams' always promises to be a factor and both teams have kickers who made an impact.  For Bishop's Noah Laursen (Calgary, Alta./Bishop Carroll H.S.) was 18-22 on field goal attempts and a perfect 10-10 on extra points.  His long was 37 yards.

Mount Allison's James Parker was less accurate at 19-27 but led the league in scoring with 74 points. He was 17-17 on extra points.  His longest field goal was 44 yards.

What's at Stake?
It is simple. Win and punch a ticket to the Loney Bowl and a date with the Acadia Axemen (8-0) on Saturday, Nov. 9 in Wolfville, N.S.; lose and the season is done.

Playoff History
The Gaiters return to the post-season for the first time since 2013. They have not won a playoff game since the 1994 Dumsmore Cup when they beat McGill 14-7 to claim the OQIFC crown.

Mount Allison is back in the AUS playoffs for the first time since 2016 when they lost to the StFX X-Men in the championship game. They won back-to-back Loney Bowls in 2013 and 2014.
