LENNOXVILLE, Que. – For the first time, the Bishop's Gaiters Cheer Team will step onto the mats as a varsity squad. They are poised to compete in the Federation de Cheerleading du Quebec (FCQ) Adrenaline event on Saturday at the Centre Claude Robillard in Montreal. The Gaiters are in the RSEQ University Open Co-Ed Division.
Under the guidance of head coach
Leanka Germain, 18 student-athletes will don the purple for the first time as Gaiters.
"We are excited to hit the mat," said Germain. "We are looking forward to the experience and feel we are prepared and confident. If we can come out of this with a good experience, learn something and are happy with our routine then it will be a positive competition."
Bishop's is slated to step onto the mat at 11:40 a.m. and again at 1:51 p.m.
Teams competing will be judged on jumps, dance, tumbling, stunts, cheer and overall impression. Difficulty versus technique will be factored into the final score.
