Gaiters ace first routine of 2022 season

For the first time in a staggering 756 days, the Gaiters returned to the mat on Saturday for the first cheerleading competition in over two years at the FCQ Provincial Championship.

With only four returners from the 2019-20 roster and new head coach, Sève Janelle at the helm, the Gaiters looked to showcase what Bishop's cheer now looks like and the team did just that - performing one of the cleanest first routines that Bishop's has ever seen.

For many of the team members experiencing a cheerleading competition for the first time, stress was at an all-time high during the 28 minutes of warm up but, when it was the Gaiters' time to take centre stage, they made absolutely no mistake.

Saturday's championship marked the first event for Janelle as a head coach and she was very impressed with the team's performance. "I am so proud of the girls!", said Sève Janelle. "They overcame the stress of competition, came together and really worked as a team on the mat. They hit the routine and with one competition under our belt, we are ready to get back in the gym and work harder than ever on the routine to make it even better for the CHEER CUP."

In this premiere event of the season, the Gaiters showcased both their new routine and their new uniforms on stage in front of a capacity crowd in Saint-Hyacinthe, Que.
