LENNOXVILLE, Que. –
Abdul Kamane (Montreal, Que./Vanier College) put up 26 points, on his senior night, to lead the Gaiters to a 70-68 win over the No. 10 Concordia Stingers on Saturday night in Mitchell Gym.
The Gaiters opened the game but it was the Stingers that controlled the first quarter, up 14-9 after 10 minutes of play. Bishop's tied it up as
Jordan Thornhill (Montreal, Que./John Abbott College) took the ball to the basket with five minutes to play in the second frame, but Concordia took control from there with two well time shots from beyond the arc. They had the 33-24 lead at halftime break.
Bishop's came out of the half shooting, they tied it up at 39 with 4:32 on the clock. Concordia did not let them take the lead that easy as they fought back to hold the 48-47 advantage after 30 minutes of action.
The Gaiters had a six point lead with 5:56 to play in the fourth, but the Stingers would not go away as a foul and back to back three pointers by Adrian Armstrong put Concordia on top. It was Bishop's turn for the push, but up by five with three minutes to go was still not enough, as the Stingers once again took back the lead. They traded the lead three times before Gaiters' senior
Kevin Davis (Baltimore, MD/Digital Harbor H.S.) took it to the hoop with 16 seconds to play. Concordia fouled and Kamane made his final point of the night from the charity stripe to give the Gaiters the 70-68 win.
Armstrong led the way for the Stingers, with 25 points. Olivier Simon, Sami Ghandour, Anthony Sanogo and Cedrick Bryan Coriolan all had seven points for Concordia.
