Gaiters off to Kingston and Peterborough for pair of key CUFLA East Clashes

LENNOXVILLE, Que. – It is early in the season but the Bishop's Gaiters lacrosse team want to get on the right track.  They will look to find some momentum on the road this weekend as they travel to play Queen's and Trent.  On Saturday, they are in Kingston for a 6:30 faceoff with the Gaels while on Sunday they play the Excalibur at 12 noon in Peterborough.

Bishop's
Bishop's sits at 1-2 in the CUFLA East.  They won their opener against Ottawa before dropping contests at home to Trent (2-1) and at Nipissing (2-1).

Mathew Paterson (Pointe Claire, Que./John Abott College) leads the Gaiters with seven points (4 G's, 3 A's) while Xavier Perron (Sherbrooke, Que./) has chipped in with five goals and one assist.

Between the pipes, Matthew Wolf and Ian Connors (Hammonds Plains, N.S./Charles P. Allen H.S.) have shared the playing time so far this season.

Queen's
The Gaels are 1-1 this year. They opened the season with a loss at home against Trent then beat Ottawa in the nation's capital.

Since 2013 Bishop's is 10-3 against Queen's however the teams split their two games last year, each defending their home turf.

Saturday's game is slated for 6:30 p.m. on Tindall Field in Kingston. Note the time and venue change from the initial schedule.

Trent
The Excalibur are 3-1 so far this year. They have wins over Queen's, Bishop's and Carleton while their loss came at McGill in double overtime.

Bishop's is 7-8 against Trent since 2013 in a bizarre series that has seen the Gaiters lose their last eight games head to head, including the game earlier this year by a score of 8-5.  In that contest, Trent jumped out to a 6-0 lead and never looked back despite Bishop's applying some late pressure.

Cody McMahon scored three goals and added an assist in the win for Trent while Devlin Kauffeldt (Aurora, Ont./Aurora H.S.) and Hank Wulder (Victoria, B.C./Claremont SS) each had two points for Bishop's.

The Excalibur's Adam Kitchen leads all CUFLA scorers with 20 points and is tied for top spot with 10 goals so far in the young season.

Sunday's game faces off at 12 noon at Justin Chiu Stadium – East Bank in what is Trent's home opener.
