LENNOXVILLE, Que. – Four Bishop's Gaiters scored in double figures, led by
Nervens Demosthene's (Terrebonne, Que./Cegep de Montmorency) 22 points but it was not enough as the Laval Rouge et Or earned their first RSEQ victory of the year, an 87-81 win in Lennoxville on Thursday night.
The game opened with a thunderous alley-oop finished by
Jordan Thornhill (Montreal, Que./John Abbott College) that sent the Mitchell Gym faithful into a frenzy.
After that, things calmed down and the teams exchanged blows. Laval was up 23-22 after one quarter while the Gaiters led 46-44 at halftime. The visitors grabbed a 68-63 lead after 30 minutes and parlayed that to the 87-81 win.
The victory moves them to 1-7 while Bishop's falls to 2-4.
Abdul Kamane (Montreal, Que./Vanier College) scored 14, Thorhill had 13 and Joany Castor-Thadal 11 off the bench to round out Gaiters in double figures.
Nicolas Desjardins led all scorers with 24 points for Laval. Sidney Tremblay-Lacombe netted 18 while Steeve Joseph and Christian Redmond-Kannon each had 14 off the bench. The victory also gave Laval head coach Nathan Grant his first win in the RSEQ.
The teams will square off again on Saturday night in Quebec City at 8 p.m.
