QUEBEC CITY – After trailing to the Laval Rouge et Or by as much as 23 points, the Gaiters women's basketball team rallied in the second half to tie the game in the fourth quarter, but ultimately couldn't close it out, dropping the thrilling contest by final score of 57-55.
How it Happened
Bishop's got off to a slow start only putting up seven points in the opening frame while conceding 25 points to a surging Laval offence. The Gaiters chipped away at the lead in the second quarter but still trailed at the half, 36-20.
Amaiquen Siciliano (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Velez Sarsfield) led the Gaiters offence with 15 points in the first half. Bishop's then came alive in the second half, opening on a 14-2 run to cut the deficit to just four points midway through the third quarter. Laval would battle back to take a 48-41 lead into the final frame. The Gaiters continued to chip away and eventually tied the game, and took a 50-48 lead with just a few minutes left. Laval would tie it and take a 55-52 lead with just 30 seconds to play. Siciliano would step up yet again and hit a three pointer with just ten seconds left to tie the game. Laval's Khaleann Caron-Gaudreau would play the hero however knocking down two free throws with just two seconds left to win the game.
The loss drops the Gaiters to 4-3 on the season in the RSEQ, three games back of Laval for first place.

Next up for the Gaiters is a home-and-home series against UQAM. The first game is Thursday night in Montreal with the opening tip set for 6 p.m. Game two goes Saturday in Mitchell Gym with opening tip also set for 6 p.m.
