Gaiters stun Citadins with huge fourth quarter on Saturday

LENNOXVILLE, Que. – The Bishop's Gaiters men's basketball team scored 32 fourth quarter points to turn a 66-54 deficit into an 86-84 victory on Saturday night in Lennoxville as part of the annual Bell Let's Talk game. Nervens Demosthene (Terrebonne, Que./Cegep de Montmorency) scored 26 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in the victory.

The win vaults the Gaiters to 4-5 in the RSEQ University season while UQAM falls to 5-6.

Bishop's connected on five of eight three-pointers in the final quarter to send the 611 Mitchell Gym faithful into a frenzy.  Local product, rookie, Carl Jacob (Sherbrooke, Que./Champlain-Lennoxville) provided a spark off the bench with a double-double of his own, 17 points and 11 rebounds for the Gaiters including a pair of huge triples down the stretch.

After trailing by as much as 15 points in the third quarter, the Gaiters chipped away at the Citadins advantage. An early 19-9 run in the fourth paced the Gaiters comeback as they tied the game at 75 just past the midway point. Ibrahim Ngom (Montreal, Que./Vanier College) connected on a three-pointer on the ensuing possession to give the Gaiters a lead they did not relinquish.

Yassin Naji (Lunel, France/Lycee Pothier Orleans) scored 12 points, Joany Castor Thadal (Montreal, Que./Champlain Collge St-Lambert), 11 and Abdul Kamane (Montreal, Que./Vanier College) 10 to round out Gaiters in double figures.

Hugo Adin led the way for the Citadins with 23 points. Schneiders Suffrard had 15, Alix Lochard 13 and Christopher Adu 12 in the loss.

The Gaiters ended up 9-28 from behind the arc after the sizzling fourth quarter where they connected at a 62.5 percent rate.

Next up, Bishop's turns their focus to Concordia (6-3).  The Stingers are coming off a pair of wins over league-leader McGill (8-4) this weekend.  The foes tip off in Montreal on Thursday and in Lennoxville on Saturday at 8 p.m.
