Gaiters to wrap up the season with games against Concordia and UQAM

LENNOXVILLE, Que. – The Bishop's University women's basketball team returns to the hardcourt this week for a pair of contests to wrap up the regular season. The Gaiters will host the Concordia Stingers on Thursday night in Mitchell Gym at 6 p.m. Bishop's will then travel to Montreal to take on the UQAM Citadins at 4 p.m. to close out the season.
 
Bishop's (8-6)
The Gaiters enter the final week of regular season play after to loss at home against the Laval Rouge et Or (11-4). Despite incredible efforts from player of the year candidate Amaiquen Siciliano (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Velez Sarsfield) with 24 points and rookie of the year candidate Jael Kabunda (Montreal, Que./College Montmorency) with 20 points, the Gaiters would come up just short losing a thriller 71-70.
 
The Gaiters enter the final week in second place in the RSEQ. A Bishop's win in one of their last two games or a UQAM loss in one of their last two games and the Gaiters will finish second in the RSEQ and will host a semifinal game.
 
Thursday, Feb. 20 vs Concordia (4-10)
The Stingers enter the week following a tough loss against the McGill Martlets (7-8). Concordia made the crosstown trek to take on the Martlets at McGill on Saturday afternoon and came away with a 60-57 loss. Caroline Task played all 40 minutes for the Stingers and led the way with a game high 25 points.
 
Concordia enters this week in fifth place in the RSEQ standings and need to win both of their last two games to keep their playoff hopes alive.
 
Last Time We Met
Bishop's and Concordia have met three times so far this season and the Gaiters have won all three games. The last meeting came on Feb. 1when the Gaiters hosted the Stingers in the Mitchell Gym. Siciliano led the way for the Gaiters with 23 points as Bishop's won the closest contest between these two teams this season by a final score of 69-66.
 
Saturday, Feb. 22 at UQAM (6-8)
The Citadins enter the final week coming off a loss to the top team in the RSEQ the Laval Rouge et Or. UQAM hit the road to take on Laval in Quebec City on Saturday night and came up short, dropping the contest by a final score of 62-53. Clara Blachier led the offence for the Citadins finishing the night with 17 points in 39 minutes of action.
 
UQAM enters this week in fourth place in the RSEQ standings needing one win in their final two games to secure a playoff spot.
 
Last Time We Met
The Gaiters and Citadins have played each other three times so far this season. Bishop's is 2-1 in those three games. The last matchup was back on Jan. 25 when the Gaiters hosted the Citadins in Mitchell Gym. UQAM came away with a 75-62 win. Kabunda led the way for the Gaiters as she finished the night with a 'double-double' recording 20 points and 10 rebounds in 31 minutes of action.
