Demosthene’s Career Night Paces Gaiters past Stingers

LENNXOVILLE, Que. – Junior guard Nervens Demosthene (Terrebonne, Que./Cegep de Montmorency) scored 39 points, the most in a single game in the RSEQ since 2014, as the Bishop's Gaiters beat the Concordia Stingers 102-93 on Thursday night in Mitchell Gym.

The win, coupled with a UQAM loss means that the Gaiters (7-8) and Citadins (8-7) will play for third place in the RSEQ when they tip-off on Saturday at 6 p.m. Montreal.

Bishop's set the pace early.  They scored 22 points in the first quarter and 31 in the second frame to grab a 53-42 advantage at the break.  A wild third, saw Bishop's score 30 points and hold an 83-65 lead. Concordia fought back in the fourth on the heels of Adrian Armstrong's 16 points including a 4-6 performance behind the arc.  They cut the lead to seven but couldn't get any closer than that as the Gaiters closed out the contest with the 102-93 victory.

At the same time in Montreal, UQAM lost 70-65 to McGill to set-up Saturday's third place showdown.

Demosthene led the Gaiters in scoring for the ninth time this year with his career-high 39 points. It's the most in the conference since 2014 and eighth highest single game total in U SPORTS this season. He also had six rebounds, five assists and two steals. Ibrihim Ngom scored 17, graduating senior Yassin Naji (Lunel, France/Lycee Pothier Orleans) 13 and Joany Castor Thadal (Montreal, Que./Champlain Collge St-Lambert) 12 to round out the Gaiters in double figures.

Armstrong finished with 33 points and 7-11 from three-point range. Oge Nwoko scored 17, Aleksandar Simeunovic 13 and Olivier Simon had 10 in the loss for Concordia, who fall to 9-6 with the loss and know they will finish in second place in the conference.

The Gaiters know they will travel to Montreal on Wednesday for the RSEQ semifinal their location is still to be determined.  Saturday's contest against UQAM will decide the final RSEQ Standings.
