LENNOXVILLE, Que. –
Nervens Demosthene (Terrebonne, Que./Cegep de Montmorency) scored a game-high 21 points in the loss, but McGill outlasted the Bishop's Gaiters 73-68 on Saturday night in Mitchell Gym in RSEQ University men's basketball.
Demosthene also and added four rebounds, four assists and a steal for the Gaiters.
Yassin Naji (Lunel, France/Lycee Pothier Orleans) and
Jordan Thornhill (Montreal, Que./John Abbott College) were the only other Bishop's players to get to double figures with 13 and 10 points respectively.
Levi Londole and Jamal Mayali each scored 19 to lead McGill. Londole also grabbed 11 rebounds to complete the double-double.
McGill, who led much of the way after the first quarter, extended their advantage to 15 points with just under six minutes to play. The Gaiters refused to give up and got the boisterous Mitchell Gym crowd involved. The late run cut the lead to just four with 33 seconds remaining but the Gaiters were unable to get within a possession and McGill held on for the win.
The victory ensures McGill stays atop the RSEQ standings at 10-4 while the Gaiters fall to 5-8. Bishop's remains six point up on Laval for the fourth and final playoff spot.

The Gaiters host the Rouge et Or on Thursday where Bishop's victory will punch their ticket to the post-season.
