MONTREAL, Que. – The McGill Martlets defeated the Bishop's Gaiters 4-1 on Friday night in Montreal in RSEQ University Women's Hockey.
The Martlets, the #1 team in the nation, scored 5:59 into the first period on a power play to take a 1-0 lead early on. The Gaiters fought hard and after a strong defensive play, Majorie Bolduc (Saint-Ephrem-de-Beauce, Que./Champlain-Lennoxville) took the puck on a breakaway and slid the puck around the McGill netminder, scoring her first goal of the season and evened the scoreline with just under ten minutes to go in the opening stanza. In the second period, the Gaiters found a rhythm on defense but had limited opportunities offensively. McGill found the back of the net at 13:55 and took a one goal lead into the final 20 minutes. The home team dominated the third period and added two more goals to make the final 4-1.

Despite the scoreline, the Gaiters held strong on defense against the top team in the conference and had some good opportunities to add to their game total. McGill dominated the possession game and outshot Bishop's 46-19 throughout the 60 minutes of play. Goaltender Charley Wing (Huntsville, Ont./Mother Teresa C.S.S.) was a wall for the Gaiters, recording 42 saves throughout the contest. Bishop's lone goal scorer, Majorie Bolduc (Saint-Ephrem-de-Beauce, Que./Champlain-Lennoxville), was named the third star of the game for her performance.
