MONTREAL – Rugby in November was something the Bishop's Gaiters had not experienced. Saturday's RSEQ Women's Consolation Final at Concordia provided them that opportunity. The Stingers spoiled the occasion with a 30-7 victory, but Bishop's was able to take a number of positives out of the experience.
Concordia pressured early and often. They scored at the seven-minute mark but were unable to convert. They found the try zone again 20 minutes later after sustaining a substantial amount of pressure and the Gaiters refusing to give up anything easy. Another unsuccessful conversion left the score 10-0 and Bishop's answered in the 35
th minute when
Melody Leggett (Gatineau, QC/Heritage College) found the try zone after a
Savannah Leroux (Saint Anne De Bellevue, QC/John Abbott College) run.
Katie Shea converted to cut the lead to 10-7.
The Stingers added their third try of the game just before halftime after forcing a turnover deep in the Gaiters end. At the break Concordia led 15-7.
Concordia used the advantage of the wind on what was a brisk but sunny afternoon to continue to push in the second half. They added two tries, a conversion, and a penalty for a 30-7 Final.
Saturday's contest was the final RSEQ game of the year as both teams now move into the offseason.
