LENNOXVILLE, Que. – November 6, 2011 was a special day in the history of Bishop's Gaiters athletics. The men's lacrosse team claimed their first Baggataway Cup championship in London, Ont. after beating the Brock Badgers 11-6 in the final of the Canadian University Field Lacrosse Championships.
On Saturday, Sept. 16, that team will be enshrined in the Bishop's University Athletic Wall of Distinction, the department's highest honour.
A weekend of celebrating starts when the 2023 edition of the Bishop's Gaiters take on the McGill Redbirds on Friday at 8 p.m. The 2011 champs will be honoured prior to faceoff. Festivities continue with the official induction ceremony on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. in front of the Wall of Distinction in the John H. Price Sports and Recreation Centre.
Flashback
The Gaiters entered the 2011 Baggataway Cup as the second seed out of the east. They beat Western in the quarter-final then topped Guelph in the semifinal before getting past Brock in the final to become the first school from Quebec to win the championship. It is Bishop's only title.
Josh Crone was the tournament MVP.
